Education and Donation at NORJAM

18 August 2025

Norwich Foodbank attended the NORJAM Carnival of fun 2025 for two days where 7000 Scouts, Explorers and their leaders from Norfolk to Estonia camped for a week. It was a great opportunity to educate the children through games and activities about what a Foodbank is and why they are needed. We hope through educating the children in why we are needed, this will also prevent them us from needing us in their future. We also wanted to learn from them what more could be done in areas such as learning about shopping, budgeting, preparing and cooking meals. One of our popular games was the £5 meal game. There were some inventive ways of making some very tasty meals from the selection of ingredients on our board. We also found out that one of the most popular items was cucumber of all things!

Notifications went out on the NORJAM app for donations of food that will be left over from each camp. We were overjoyed to receive over 1 tonne of donations which included some of our most needed items such as UHT milk, tinned meat, veg, fruit and treats. Some camps had one or two tins and some camps arrived with a wagon of food. Every single donation makes a difference. Our administrator is passionate to educate children where possible as families and households continue to face difficulties juggling work, finances, time or other commitments.
