Norwich group join Parliament prayer breakfast

Over 650 people gathered in Westminster, including over 180 MPs, plus charity and church leaders. The event was organised by ‘Christians In Parliament’ and the Bible Society and was hosted by Tim Farron.

Katherine Gilmartin and Hannah Worsley from Norwich Foodbank and Rev Edward Carter , vicar at St Peter Mancroft hosted a group at Chantry Hall to watch the livestream.

Hannah said: “There was a brilliant address by Clare Williams-Sarpong on the theme of ‘Hope For the Future’. Clare spoke on two Bible passages: Mark 10 v 46-52 and 1 Peter 1 v 3-7, referencing Bartimaeus’ cry for hope, the crowd’s rejection of hope and their cynicism and Jesus’ offer of real hope and posture of service.

“A key takeaway for several of us was Clare’s phrase that ‘politics is a great servant but a terrible saviour.’ Prayers were said by different MPs from across the four nations of the UK and we joined together in sung worship with those present and around 900 online attendees.

“It was such a joy to be together across different locations and sharing the connection with others taking time out to show up for reasons of faith, hope and prayer.”

Hannah said: “One of the local attendees shared that they were pleased that ‘Tim Farron pulled no punches as he closed out completely unashamedly that it is all about Jesus and only Him. We really do have a hope and His name is Jesus!’ which was a great summary of the ‘hope for the future’ title.”
