Psalm 126 verse 5-6
‘Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy carrying sheaves with them.’
As we take time to consider and celebrate all the good that Norwich Foodbank does to support those that are in need let us give praise and thanks to God.
We give thanks for:
1. All the generous Harvest donations of food and money given by schools and churches at their harvest celebrations.
2. Promises that have been made for support over the Christmas period.
3. Recognition in the Network Norfolk awards of our website and donation journey film!
4. New volunteers who are fitting in so well to different roles.
5. All the support given by supermarkets to aid in-person collections.
6. Great progress with the ‘Lived Experience’ panel who have now met 3 times and are gelling as a group.
7. Brilliant teamwork across all the staff, volunteers and trustees in our tasks.
8. The refreshed vision from Trussell which encourages us in our bid to end to the need for foodbanks.
‘Listening to Winter’ by Macrina Wiederkehr
The trees have shed their colourful autumn robes.
Winter is raging through the dark, empty branches and I am listening.
I am listening to the roar and to the quiet of winter.
I am listening to a beauty that sometimes remains unseen.
I am listening.
I am listening to the seed hidden in the earth.
I am listening to the dark swallowing up the light.
I am listening to faith rising out of doubt.
I am listening to the need to believe without seeing.
We pray for:
1. The coming Winter months and the toll it can take with colder weather and additional expenses.
2. The Autumn budget both before and after; for wisdom as individuals, groups, charities, churches and business we understand how we may be impacted.
3. Our government both locally and nationally – as they consider how to help people in so many different ways, we pray for compassion and wisdom.
4. The whole Foodbank team including Trustees, volunteers and staff. For cohesion and good communication in this busy period.
5. The coming Christmas time – we pray for continued support and stamina to tackle all the season brings.
6. Health and wellbeing of each one of us – keep us in good health and especially thinking of those who are more vulnerable and susceptible to illnesses.
7. Residents in need of support in the Wymondham area, following changes to an independent foodbank leading to potentially more need in the area.
Food Bank Prayer
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in. Matthew 25:35
God of faithfulness, Your generous love supplies us with all that we need. We know that all we have is yours. We celebrate the work that you have done in Norwich and Norfolk through foodbank by means of the generous support of many people.
Through foodbank we are able to offer food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty and compassion to the strangers in our city and county.
Accept our offering of worship and service. May your Spirit empower us to be your hands and feet in our community as we continue to serve those in crisis.
We pray that you bless all those who give and receive. Increase the capacity of Norwich foodbank; help the food to get to those who need it most.
Amen
