Foodbank Prayer Letter: June 2025

24 June 2025

Psalm 91 verses 1-2
Whoever goes to the LORD for safety,
whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty,
can say to him. “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in You I trust.”

As we take time to consider and celebrate all the good that Norwich Foodbank does to support those that are in need, let us give praise and thanks to God.

We give thanks for:
1. All the generous donations which keep coming, despite so many facing financial difficulties. We also thank everyone involved in the in-store Tesco and Waitrose collections recently.
2. Our volunteers and all those who offer to volunteer, so that we always have enough help. Without volunteers, we would be in a totally different situation.
3. A small reduction in numbers of people in need of the foodbank – we have seen a 10% reduction in vouchers fulfilled in the 12 months to April 2025 compared with the same period 2024.
4. New opportunities including being the ‘charity of the year’, new donors giving their support through sponsored challenges and new press contacts.
5. Recent uplifting testimonies and stories from people who have benefitted from using our services and shows the power of what we do in partnership with various local and national agencies who provide help and support.
6. Great relationships with agencies, making a difference together for our mutual clients. This shows the power of what we do in partnership with various local and national agencies who provide help and support.
7. A new opportunity with ‘Your Own Place’ to start a ‘lived experience panel’ to better inform our work with those who have used foodbank and to campaign for change in Norwich and further afield.
8. The continued support of Trussell with new opportunities and people to help guide, support and strengthen us.
9. The support of so many churches, individuals, and other groups who continue to support our work in different ways, including financially. This includes financial donations, meaning we can buy in food to keep stock levels healthy.

2 Corinthians 1:3
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the Father who gives tender love. All comfort comes from Him.”.
We pray for:
1. Positive outcomes following attendance at a national The Lobby day in June – for positive actions from MPs after Jon and Hannah travelled to London, alongside hundreds of other foodbank representatives across the UK, to lobby MPs for change in our welfare system so people can afford the essentials.
2. All our staff, volunteers and Trustees, keep them in Your love.
3. The safe and successful induction of our new Citizens Advice worker, joining the team over the summer.
4. The upcoming food collection and foodbank awareness events – for support, safety and enjoyment for staff, volunteers and visitors.
5. Future volunteer and staff training – new opportunities and refreshing skills over the coming months, for those leading and attending to find it beneficial.
6. Donations – we are seeing a decline in physical donations at the foodbank; let those who are thinking of donating be encouraged in these difficult times and those that give know the worth of their generosity;
7. Wisdom in all our endeavours, and more opportunities for buying in food and necessities for those in need.Food Bank Prayer
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in.  Matthew 25:35 God of faithfulness, Your generous love supplies us with all that we need. We know that all we have is yours. We celebrate the work that you have done in Norwich and Norfolk through foodbank by means of the generous support of many people.
Through foodbank we are able to offer food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty and compassion to the strangers in our city and county.
Accept our offering of worship and service.  May your Spirit empower us to be your hands and feet in our community as we continue to serve those in crisis.
We pray that you bless all those who give and receive. Increase the capacity of Norwich foodbank; help the food to get to those who need it most.
Amen
