Foodbank Prayer Letter: July 2024

5 July 2024

Psalm chapter 71 verses 1-6

Be a rock of refuge for me, where I can always go. Give the command to save me, for You are my rock and fortress. Deliver me, my God, from the power of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and oppressive. For You are my hope, Lord God, my confidence from my youth.

As we take time to consider and celebrate all the good that the Norwich foodbank does to support those that are in need, let us give praise and thanks to God.

We pray for:
1. The recent election both locally and nationally. Let the party leaders act wisely and with integrity always for the good of our country.
2. Families of low incomes who find the upcoming school holidays a struggle. Let them find support in coping at this time.
3. More action and renewed vigour following several ‘anti-poverty events’ in Norfolk discussing issues and solutions, let our actions reach those who can make a difference.
4. For staff and Trustees, give them wisdom in making decisions about resources and ways forward.
5. Our partnerships with Age UK, British Red Cross, Citizens Advice, Shelter, Your Own Place. Let them work together for the benefit of all in need.
6. Those who are visiting us for the first time, give them hope that soon things will change for the better.

Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22-23
(King James Version)
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness.

We give Thanks for:

1. Those who give willingly and regularly to the foodbank.
2. Rachel (our Administrator) and Justin as they got married in June.
3. New connections made with groups, businesses and supporters. Let these relationships flourish and bring more to the food bank.
4. New volunteers and the contribution that they make.
5. New relationships with people with lived experience of the foodbank so we can better understand need and the journey of using us.
6. Further funding secured for our partnerships to continue till 2026.
7. Volunteer training and upskilling that took place recently.
8. The school holiday provision across the county and with partners in Mile Cross, Queens Hill and Thorpe Hamlet who we have worked with and supported for many years.

Foodbank Prayer
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in.  Matthew 25:35

God of faithfulness, Your generous love supplies us with all that we need. We know that all we have is yours.
We celebrate the work that you have done in Norwich and Norfolk through foodbank by means of the generous support of many people.
Through foodbank we are able to offer food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty and compassion to the strangers in our city and county.
Accept our offering of worship and service.  May your Spirit empower us to be your hands and feet in our community as we continue to serve those in crisis.
We pray that you bless all those who give and receive.  Increase the capacity of foodbank; help the food to get to those who need it most.
Amen
