Food Bank Prayer Letter February 2024

29 January 2024

Psalm 111

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion;
holy and reverend is His name.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart,
in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

As we take time to consider and celebrate all the good that the Norwich food bank does to support those that are in need let us give praise and thanks to God.

We pray for:
1. The upcoming election and decisions being made and considered both locally and nationally. For those in power to consider the needs of all people to allow our country to be a place for everyone to flourish.
2. Our new member of staff, Jon, as he continues to settle in to the role and team and for the staff team as they settle into new ways of working together.
3. For all the devoted volunteers and Trustees who continue to bring their skills and energy to make the foodbank fulfil the needs of those it serves.
4. All those people who are worried and despairing about the current economic situation. For those who cannot make ends meet and are constantly concerned about the welfare of their families.
5. Upcoming events to discuss actions around emergency food aid and other related provision, at the Bishop of Norwich’ roundtable event in March and a Trussell Trust led forum in hosted in Norwich in February.

O soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see;
there’s light for a look at the Saviour
and life more abundant and free.

We give thanks for:
1. The amazing and continued generosity from new and old donors especially in December when so many people were already stretched with their own expenses.
2. The number of people who continue offer their generosity of time as new volunteers for the foodbank.
3. Our renewed partnership and funding for Your Own Place workers to be in our distribution centres and Pathfinder church, helping people with the difficulties they face and ensuring that they know they are not alone.
4. The continued advice and support partners receive in all 11 distribution centres from 2024!
5. Being ‘charity of the year’ for two places and for the relationships and opportunities this has opened up to us
6. Joined up thinking and collaboration across Norwich and Pathfinder foodbanks in terms of ‘what is our role’ at the foodbank, where and how can we learn from others, building on existing services and seeking to fill a gap where necessary and appropriate Bring all concerned about poverty in our country and the world together so that as one voice we can bring about change through our actions and our prayers.

Food Bank Prayer
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in.  Matthew 25:35 God of faithfulness, Your generous love supplies us with all that we need. We know that all we have is yours.
We celebrate the work that you have done in Norwich and Norfolk through foodbank by means of the generous support of many people.
Through foodbank we are able to offer food to the hungry, a drink to the thirsty and compassion to the strangers in our city and county.
Accept our offering of worship and service.  May your Spirit empower us to be your hands and feet in our community as we continue to serve those in crisis.
We pray that you bless all those who give and receive.  Increase the capacity of foodbank; help the food to get to those who need it most.
Amen
